His legs will never move again but his brain is still working; he can neither change nor deny the circumstances which have led him to this point but he still welcomes and responds to influences outside himself. In this state, a strange alchemy has been allowed to occur; he has integrated and reshaped his torment and tormentors into something hopeful and useful.
